GIARD, CHRIS – began his outdoor exploration by backpacking in and around New England at the age of 12, but soon realized a skinny 12-year-old can only carry so much on his back. From Massachusetts, Chris always yeaned to find the wilderness so often written about in old exploration books. When he got a chance to travel across the Northwest Territories with a crew of Canadians he didn’t know, he jumped at the chance. Having a taste of the true wilderness in Alaska last year, spending two months in the Northwest Territories on his first long term canoe trip was a dream come true.
